We recently helped host an instrument repair conference here in the Sunny gold Coast. NAPBIRT organised the regional conference here in Australia, and we were so fortunate to have technicians from both Australia and further afield attend this conference. Back to back clinics were held over the long weekend in October, and technicians from both Australia and the USA shared their knowledge with the group. As Band Instrument repair is not a recognised trade in Australia, these conferences are invaluable to us as an industry. Also, having other industry folk to talk to about all the repair related things that get me enthused, really makes for great late night bar chats!
I presented a clinic on shop tips and time saving ideas, as anyone in small business knows, time is something we never have quite enough of!
In April I will be travelling to Normal, Illinois to attend the National Repair Conference and help host a clinic on shop ergonomics and working smarter in the Workshop.
Here are some pics form the Gold Coast Conference:
Wind and Brass has recently relocated! The workshop has been located in Brisbane since the day I started this business in 2003, so the decision to relocate was not take lightly. When you start a small business, one thing you don’t think about is how hard it is to move town/city! So much blood, sweat and tears, (and long, long hours) go into building your clientele and making the business a success, so the thought of relocating is an extremely daunting one.
The Northern Rivers area of NSW has always been one of my favourite parts of the world, so in May this year, I made the hard decision to relocated my family and my business.
I have now set up shop in Lennox head, and I am happy to say I starting to get some new local customers. I am travelling to Brisbane once a week to collect and drop off work and I also have a drop off/collection point at the Brass Music Specialists in Graceville, Brisbane. This means that I can still offer the same fast turnaround times, and keep servicing the instruments of my very loyal and also new customers ( and then at the end of the long day take a walk on the beach with my dog!)
Work life balance is something we all struggle with at times, I am hoping I can finally find mine!
If you haven’t done so already- pop over and ‘like’ our facebook page to keep up to date with the latest!
We now also have a website for out preloved instruments. It is still a work in progress, so please be patient. Many more instruments coming soon!
